BT Connections Down

BT Broadband has gone down for the second morning in a row, but this time this outage left some of our customers which use the BT backbone unable to access online services.

BT about an hour after the incident happened posted the following on Twitter

@BTCare

Sorry if you’re unable to access some websites this morning on BT Broadband, we’re investigating the cause and will update you all soon

BT acted by diverting traffic differently around the backbone of the network allowing some customers to get back online but at a reduced speed while a fix was performed. The official announced about this read “We are redirecting traffic to reduce the impact on customers and the issue is now affecting less than 5% of customers’ internet usage. Engineers are on site and we hope will be able to fix the problem shortly.

We personally saw internet connections we provide and monitor come back online around 11:00 GMT with good to normal speeds at around 14:00 GMT.

BT claims that service has now been restored and have released the following announcement.

Internet usage is now back to normal for consumer and small business customers, a small number of larger businesses may still be experiencing some limited internet access. Engineers should have these fixed soon.
